Future Trends in the Solar Battery Market: What to Expect in the Next Five Years

Australia is flooded with a wide range of battery, inverter, and solar panel brands. However, a select few solar panel brands have firmly established themselves in the market. Here’s a list of trusted brands that have been around for over 10 years, consistently delivering high-quality products with proven reliability, as we’ve experienced no issues with them so far: LG Solar, Jinko Solar, Q Cells (Hanwha Q Cells), SunPower (Maxeon), Canadian Solar, Trina Solar, REC Group, JA Solar, LONGi Solar, Suntech Power, Seraphim Solar, and Risen Energy.

Next up are solar batteries. It’s important to focus on “solar batteries” because, in the future, batteries and inverters will no longer be sold separately. The inverter will become an integral part of the battery bank, combining both components into a single system. This shift signals the future of energy storage, where standalone inverters will become obsolete.

Currently, we see a lot of rebranding and box-making, with only a few true battery manufacturers in the market. Here’s a list of the key players in the solar battery market: Tesla Powerwall, LG Chem (LG Energy Solution), Sonnen, BYD (Build Your Dreams), Enphase (Enphase IQ Batteries), Alpha ESS, RedEarth Energy Storage, Pylontech, SolarEdge Energy Bank, VARTA, Zenaji, Simpliphi Power, Huawei LUNA, Q Cells Q.HOME ESS, Panasonic, Samsung SDI, Redflow, Victron Energy, Eguana Technologies, Duracell Energy Bank, GivEnergy, Growatt, and Goodwe.

This is what we believe will happen in the next five years: box-makers like Sonnen will likely fade away, while big brands such as Samsung or LG may retreat to serving only industrial markets. Small battery makers who do not actually produce battery cells are expected to disappear. I am confident that a small number of brands that are vertically integrated, producing everything from battery cells to complete inverter/battery systems, will dominate the market. These include Pylontech, Alpha ESS, BYD, and Tesla. Additionally, some brands are definitely integrating battery manufacturing and have the capacity to expand, including Sungrow, Huawei, Sigen, Deye, and very likely Solis will also become part of battery manufacturing.
